Avec l’aide de ses éditeurs régionaux à travers le continent, Music In Africa a créé une longue playlist de deux parties, qui réunit les meilleures propositions de musiques populaire d’Afrique en 2021. La liste de lecture est divisée en 5 régions, à savoir l’Afrique australe (partie 1), l’Afrique de l’Ouest (partie 1), l’Afrique de l’Est (partie 2), l’Afrique centrale (partie 2) et l’Afrique du Nord (partie 2). Afrique du sud

L’Afrique du Sud est le colosse de l’industrie musicale d’Afrique australe et ses artistes continuent de produire certaines des oeuvres les plus en vue du continent. L’amapiano, un style musical nouveau, a pris d’assaut la scène locale et s’est même invité sur les dancefloors de toute l’Afrique. Les artistes qui ont dominé le genre tout au long de l’année sont notamment Busta 929, Makhadzi, DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Lady Du et Durban Gogo. Les artistes hip-hop sud-africains Focalistic, Blxckie et Lucasraps ont également marqué les esprits cette saison.

Au Zimbabwe, des musiciens commeah Prayzah, Nutty O, Ex Q et Anita Jaxson ont également travaillé dur pour sortir de la musique de haute qualité tout au long de l’année.

Afrique de l’Ouest

Dans la région anglophone d’Afrique de l’Ouest, les afrobeats ont encore dominé les débats. Promu par une cohorte dynamique de musiciens et de producteurs, le genre est gravé sur certains des plus grands succès de 2021. Wizkid du Nigeria, mais aussi Fireboy DML, Fireboy DML et Ladipoe ainsi que Black Sherif du Ghana, ont été parmi les architectes les plus remarquables des afrobeats. Ce fut aussi une année prolifique pour les artistes de l’industrie francophone de l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Beaucoup d’entre eux ont proposé des œuvres urbaines, souvent inspirées des cultures de leur terroir. Les artistes à succès venant de cette région sont Azaya (Guinée), Josey (Côte d’Ivoire) et Aya Nakamura (Mali/France), entre autres.
