Ghanaian rapper D-Black has signed a deal with Sony/ ATV Music Publishing, a move that will see his music taken to the global market.

The rapper, who is currently in Los Angeles, shared the news on his social media pages.

“This is a big move for not just me but the entire country, acts and producers on Black Avenue Musik,” he wrote on Instagram. “I want to put Ghanaian music on the forefront of the Afrobeats global wave, and this is just the first step with Sony/ATV. I’m excited to learn more and empower myself and my team to be a force to reckon with not only as an artist but as a music business executive and as an African label as a whole.”

The deal is set to raise D-Black’s songwriting and production profile to the same revered status that he enjoys as a performer and allows him to connect with other esteemed songwriters on Sony/ATV’s roster.

“D-Black’s skills and talents will be a great addition to the Sony/ATV family,” Sony/ATV Music Publishing managing director Rowlin Naicker said. “We are excited to represent and partner with him in the next phase of his career.”

The newly appointed Sony/ATV Music Publishing Africa A&R Manager, Munyaradzi Chanetsa, said: “I sincerely hope this signing showcases to Ghana our commitment to prioritise and work with Ghanaian songwriters and producers. I am excited for what the future holds for us.”

In February, D-Black released The Ghana Connection, an Afrobeats compilation that features artists such as Ghana’s King Promise, KiDi and Kuami Eugene as well as Nigeria’s Mayorkun and Simi. In April, he was named among the four most impressive musician-entrepreneurs on the Top 50 Young CEOs in Ghana list, as the CEO of the Black Avenue Muzik record label.

D-Black now joins other prominent artists signed to Sony/ATV Africa, such as Nigerian music producer Kiddominant and South Africans DJ Maphorisa and Theo Kgosinkwe (Mafikizolo), among others.
