Gambian afro-pop artist Jizzle filled the 30,000 capacity Independence Stadium, Bakau for the concert of his album on Saturday, 23 November.
The ‘Finally’ concert dubbed ‘Fessal Estade’ meaning fill up the stadium featured some of Gambia’s and Senegalese’ acts.
Finally, is Jizzle’s 12 track debut album, released on 9 August. A project with the sound of Afrobeats, Afro-fusion and elements of Hip Hop. In September, the artist went on a three-week tour of Europe, including Sweden, Italy, and Germany to promote his album in a display of dynamic stage presence and performance style.
The album featured West African Artists such as Dip Doundou Guiss, Samba Peuzzi, Bm Jaay, and Hakill all from Senegal, Shaydee from Nigeria and Gee from The Gambia.
In an unprecedented event in the Gambian music industry, no other concert at the stadium has received the type of crowd that turned up for Jizzle. Not even when Davido, Chronixx, Movado and Youssou N’Dour who all performed at the same venue in recent past had that number of crowd.
Jizzle, real name Jerreh Jallow said to the crowd; “This is not my show, this show is for the Gambian music industry. All of us, as artists, when one shines, we all shine. There is no competition, we must have love and support for each other. When one of us wins, we all win.”
Some singles have been previously released from the album accompanied by videos like ‘Finally’, ‘Joanna’, ‘Just In Case.’ However, it was, ‘Tuyrn By Turn’ that became number one on Apple Top 100 Gambia for five weeks. The album was also number one on Apple Music Gambia.
Jizzle’s hard work as a musician has proven that his craft is ready for the world stage. He was the big winner at the 2019 Whasahalat Music Awards with the most wins of the night of five awards.
Since its release, Finally has proven to be the hottest album in the streets of the Gambia. It is heard in cars, shops, clubs and at parties. Currently, he is arguably one of the top artists in the country.
Jizzle sings in three major West African languages – Fula, Mandingo and Wolof – and of course in English, making him a marketable brand, both at home and abroad.
