Upcoming Kenyan rapper Kuky has released a new single called ‘Baddie’, which is available for streaming and download on major streaming platforms.
The high-energy anthem that personifies fearlessness and readiness to conquer anything that comes your way is a fierce declaration that Kuky is one of the finest MCs in the game.
It was produced by Kenya’s versatile artist and music producer Afamefuna, famed for producing the chart-topping sizzler ‘Cocoa Butter’ featuring Danski off Lil Maina’s debut opus Maisha Ya Stunna, ‘Baddie’ is a thrilling listening experience laced with hard-hitting lyrics delivered in Kuky’s no-nonsense flow and raw energy injected into the Jersey Club beat. The dark chords and pulsating rhythm set the perfect tone for the song’s powerful message of empowerment.
The recording process was a collaborative effort between Kuky and Afamefuna, who pushed the artist to explore her untamed self-expression. The result is a raw performance that captures Kuky’s ethos.
“We wanted to tap into Kuky’s untamed self-expression, which is why her vocals come across as though we were colouring outside the lines with these takes,” Afamefuna said. “Kuky had to reach deep into herself and connect with her grizzly alter ego to deliver these lines. When we were done recording, Kuky had channelled her all into the microphone.”
Afamefuna’s extensive experience in music production and audio engineering pairs well with Kuky’s artistic grip, offering entertaining and timeless music.
The record follows ‘Calling’ released in May, and features a boisterous music video that showcases Kuky’s on-screen talent.
Kuky, born Salima Muigai, is a Kenyan female rapper, model and entrepreneur. She has been recognised for her musical versatility and lyrical prowess, proving that rap is no longer a boys’ club only affair. A mass communications graduate from Mount Kenya University, she started her career taking cyphers.
