Malawi to receive music equipment worth $10m

The announcement was made by CABC general secretary Erick Wang at a New York event on 25 September where Malawian first lady Gertrude Maseko Mutharika was present.

The donation will be made through the Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM) via Chinese youth initiative Public Benefit International Challenge (PBIC).

Speaking at the event, Wang said Chinese youths were taking the lead in engaging musicians and various celebrities in the Asian country to raise funds to assist fellow young people in Africa.

The donation also includes six music classrooms designed for young musicians in Malawi

“We are very glad that Malawi is the first beneficiary of this donation because of your Excellency’s commitment and passion to youth activities,” Wang was quoted as saying.

“Your motivation when you visited Peking University in 2016 had a huge impact among many youths in China. They now have a different view about Africa and Malawi specifically.”

In her remarks, Mutharika commended the CABC for supporting her efforts under BEAM.

“We are very grateful for considering the youths of Malawi in this programme. The musical instruments and all the other activities under this initiative will greatly benefit them and have a huge impact on their lives,” she said, adding that the equipment would be dispatched to various learning institutions in Malawi.
