Open call: Never Such Innocence international competition

The competition marks the third edition of the project’s Conversations on Conflict programme. This year’s contest seeks to answer the question: How can we prevent future wars?

In their entries, entrants should:

• Answer what individuals, communities or nations should do to prevent future wars.
• Answer what people can learn from the past and what advice they can give to leaders.

Rules

• The competition will run from 20 September 2024 to 28 February 2025.
• It is open to children and young people aged between 9 to 18 years.  
• Entrants should share their thoughts using song, poetry, art and speech.
• Entrants can enter as an individual, group or multiple entries by multiple individuals.
• There is no entry fee.
• Only one entry to each category per individual or group will be accepted; entrants may enter multiple categories (for example one poem and one piece of art may be entered by the same individual).
• The judges’ decision is final and neither the judges nor Never Such Innocence staff will enter into any correspondence.
• The copyright of each entry remains with the author. However, by entering the competition, the author grants Never Such Innocence the right to publish and/ or broadcast their work. All work entered into the competition may be broadcast with the entrant’s full name, age range, school and/ or country.

About Never Such Innocence

The charity began as a First World War commemoration project for children and young people. Inspired by this conflict, more than 11 000 young people from 47 countries, territories and dependencies created songs, poetry and artwork. From 2019 the organisation expanded its focus to include conflict in all forms and throughout history, up to and including the present day. To date, young people in over 125 countries have participated in its work. The organisation’s work is delivered in three key ways: workshops, special events and an international competition  – through two core programmes: Conversations on Conflict and Voices of Armed Forces Children.
