Showbiz Entertainment Africa (SEAfrica) will host its fifth creative conference aimed at developing and growing the entertainment industry on the continent.
The conference will take place at the Soweto Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 26 to 27 September.
It will run under the theme Up Your Creative Hustle and is intended for creatives in music, radio, dance, poetry and film.
Conference speakers will include Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (CAPASSO) head of licensing and new business Munyaradzi Chanetsa, South African Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu, SABC entertainment commissioning editor Milly Summersgill, Wits School of Arts head of cultural policy and management Avril Joffe, SlikourOnLife founder Siya Metane and Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival director Tegan Bristow.
Topics to be discussed are Ways to Make It as a Creative Entrepreneur, Your Work, Your Copyright (The Impact of the Amendment Bill), Staying on the Rights Side of Online Entertainment (Digital Licensing & Rights), Getting Ready for the 4th Industrial Revolution, Doing Business with the SABC – What You Need to Know, and Secrets of a Social Media Trend – Digital Viral Marketing.
“The various conference sessions expose proven approaches for launching and managing creative products and services, managing and marketing talent, assessing and determining when to launch a business, identifying trends and capitalising on market disruptions, and other strategic challenges,” SEAfrica said.
“Following the success of the event at the Joburg Theatre last year, the organisers have elected to take this year’s firth edition of the event to Soweto Theatre to better engage with the heartbeat of entertainment inspiration in Gauteng.”
The event welcomes exhibitions from record labels, studios, dance companies, talent/casting agencies, media/business schools, modelling agencies and many others.
A similar event will also take place in Gaborone, Botswana, on 2 and 3 September. For more information about the Botswana event, visit the SEAfrica BW Facebook page.
