Ghana’s leading dancehall act Stonebwoy emerged highest winner at the 2015 BASS Awards held Wednesday 16 December. The artist, who has a year filled with honours, including BET, GMA and AFRIMA awards, won six trophies for his work.
The BASS Awards celebrate Ghana’s reggae and dancehall musicians. This year a number of well-known artists were on the list of nominees as Shatta Wale, MzVee, Samini all earned nominations at the ceremony. Stonebwoy, however, topped the list, earning 13 nominations.
At the ceremony artists MzVee, Ak Songstress, Jupiter and Knii Lante were in attendance and performed. The stage design and organisation of the night’s proceedings have been lauded, with criticism levelled mostly at the event’s last start.
In the end, not only were the most awards won by Stonebwoy, he also took the most important awards, namely, Album of the Year and the Kwame Nkrumah Award [for] (Artiste of The Year). Stonebwoy’s ‘Pull Up remix’ collaborator, Patoranking, won the event’s Best International Act category. And the sole award for females, Female Vocalist of the Year, was won by the artist Ak Songstress.
