Weeks ago the internet erupted when the song ‘One Dance’ was released by the US-based artist Drake. For his fans from Africa, part of the excitement was because the rapper features Nigerian pop star Wizkid.

Now it is the Nigerian’s turn to feature an American artist as the wait for a much touted feature with Chris Brown comes to an end. The ‘Ojuelegba’ singer announced on Wednesday 30 June that the song is titled ‘Shabba’, and also features Chris Brown’s R&B colleague Trey Songz and rapper French Montana. As with some of his other announcements, this was made known on Twitter.

His tweet read: “Official version of my record “Shabba” ft Chris brown and Trey Songz drops tonight! #Starboyworldwide!” A version of the song was tweeted by the singer. This early version has lines delivered by Chris Brown, Wiz Kid, Hoody Baby and UK group, Section Boyz. Wizkid’s own version hit the internet on 2 July, two days later than the Lagos-based popstar tweeted.

Wizkid and Chris Brown have maintained a relationship since photos of the two stars showed up online a few years ago. Rumours of a collaboration followed. This year, Wizkid was included in the line-up of performers at a recent Chris Brown tour. Once again, photos of the two surfaced online. Upon release, the song can be expected to be a massive draw both for Wizkid’s fan and Chris fans.

Wizkid has shifted the release date of his awaited third album several times, giving the quest for a better offering as his reason. With his increasing visibility on the global stage, it is perhaps easy to see why.
