Zambia mourns veteran sound engineer Alessandro Borzi

The cause and place of Borzi’s death were unknown at the time of writing. He was technical director of repute, and industry professionals took to social media to pay their condolences.

“In loving memory of Alessandro Borzi, a remarkable producer, technical director and sound engineer whose talent and dedication led the way in audio and lighting excellence for concerts, government events and churches in Zambia,” R&G Events wrote. “As R&G we worked with Alex on countless events, most recently the incredible Mosi Day of Thunder. We will miss his energy, smile and dedication enormously. Our love and condolences go to all of his beloved family and friends. Rest peacefully, Mr Borzi.”

The Event Professionals Association of Zambia wrote: “Today, we honour the legacy of Alessandro Borzi, a pillar of Zirbo Zambia and a visionary in sound and stage production. Alessandro’s innovative spirit and unwavering dedication left an indelible mark on our industry and touched countless lives. His loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege to work with him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this challenging time.”

Local music group The Elect Band also wrote: “We join the team at Zirbo Zambia in mourning the loss of their founder Alessandro Borzi, a dedicated individual in the industry. His sudden and unexpected death has affected us all tremendously. May he rest in peace – his service and commitment to the entertainment industry will always be remembered.”

Born in Rome, Italy, Borzi studied music and record production. Upon graduation, he worked as an apprentice in various studios such as Forum and Cinecitta studio in Rome, Fonoprint in Bologna, and Stone Castle in Carimate. Over this period, he refined and learned the tricks of the trade and got to know the ’80s and ’90s music circuit by participating in various productions as a drummer, producer and sound engineer, both live and in the studio.

Later he developed an interest in theatre and cinema, where he participated in various roles, which saw him collaborating with theatrical companies as a sound engineer, light giver, stage manager, and technical director. He founded his production team called Zemm and built a recording studio where he produced music for various artists.
