Organisers of the annual Music of Black Origin Awards (popularly known as the MOBO Awards) have released a list of nominees for the 2016 edition.
The category for Best African Act sees Ghanaian artists Eugy, Mr Eazi and Mista Silva nab nominations. The category is dominated by Nigerians artists including Wizkid, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, and Tekno Miles.
By 17 October, however, the list of nominees in this category will be reduced to five finalists. The category has been won three times in a row by the Ghanaian artist Fuse ODG, who is based in the UK.
Mr Eazi, the Nigerian-born artist based in Ghana, has had a great year, receiving several awards and nominations since he was barred from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards early this year.
Tiwa Savage released a critically acclaimed sophomore album RED late last year. Olamide is expected to release his sixth solo album before the year ends. And Tekno has extended his hits-only streak with the song ‘Pana‘. He is said to be at work on his debut album.
The forthcoming event, scheduled for 4 November, is the 21st anniversary of the MOBOs. The ceremony proper will be held in Glasgow in the UK at the SSE Hydro. It will be broadcast live on ITV 2, and repeated on ITV.
